This is not an adjustment, it sucks. When looking at a show you have to go through bs just to compare it to other circulating sources. Browsing isn't even convienient. Where is the benefit to this new setup? This will seriously change the makeup of where I grab my shows.

Supporting and maintaining two sets of software (the standard software used for most of the Internet Archive and the specialized software used, until now, for the Live Music Archive portion of the Internet Archive) has to be an insanely expensive proposition. Probably roughly twice as much as supporting and maintaining one. If you want them to continue to maintain a completely separate set of software just for the Live Music Archive, how about you chip in the (probably) millions of dollars it will cost to continue to support and maintain that separate system!

Or you could give it a few days (or weeks), give them an opportunity to clean up some of this stuff, fix some of the more obvious problems (in the general-purpose software used for the WHOLE Archive, maybe even including some special tweaks for the LMA), and try to give us a system that works for us without costing them an arm and a leg in support and maintenance costs!

I don't think it's going to kill you to put up with a little inconvenience during this switchhover. Especially since you can still find all the shows you could before. Even if you may need to search a little harder. In the mean time, I think you should STFU, and let the nice people get on with trying to fix and improve the system to make it better. I am quite sure they know that people are unhappy. Now, give 'em some space to work, quit joggling their elbow, and let them do their jobs.

Unless, of course, you do have millions of dollars to donate. Then, I'm sure, the Archive would be happy to hear what you might have to say. :)

Note: I don't speak for the Archive or their staff, but I do work with other volunteer-run organizations, and I certainly know what it's like when people start whining about something that's being provided for free. Since I can't really tell those people to f*ck off (wouldn't be politic), it's very cathartic for me to be able to come over here and tell some of you greedy, self-centered bastards to f*ck off! :)

(Yes, Diana, there is indeed a reason I didn't agree to become a volunteer archivist.) :) :) :)

I actually always wondered why you didn't join up. Your posts are always the type that are informed, insightful, and you seem like perfect 'admin-material' ... I thought that you were never offered the spot. I didn't know you had turned it down ;)

Great post. :)

Congrats LAMA on the long anticipated move.I'm sure the technical challenges will seem small compared to the whining and complaining of all the entitled sorts who think you messed with 'their' site.

I appreciate all the hard work all the IA volunteers put in and am willing to patiently wait for the current kinks to be worked out and will do what it takes to learn how to best make use of the new format.

Hang in there!

Just because someone worked hard one something, doesn't mean they automatically get a free pass if the results hinder the end users of this site. A for effort, F for results. Any site that solicites donations should consider their users.

I don't feel entitled, nor do I feel like the IA is "my" site, nor do I go into a frenzy of drug consumption when I can't easily find the Dead show I'm looking for.....

....but really, taking away all the user-friendly aspects of a site that basically serves as an online library is a bit counter-productive, don't you think?

I'd like everyone to put some hard work into returning the LMA to a user friendly site. I'm saying return to the old version but at least make the new version as easy to navigate. Bells and wistles are nice but you have to be able to use them. To all involved, despite the ballbusting your work is greatly appreciated. More CREEK
